The Disadvantages of Using Credit Cards

The use of credit cards is very common these days.  With our society preferring cashless transactions, we are becoming more used to credit cards and debit cards.  While credit cards have their benefits, they can also pose some real disadvantages to its users. So before you get another card, let’s look first at the pros and cons of having a credit card.

One of the main advantages of using credit cards is that it helps you build your credit rating.  If you are able to pay off your credit card balance regularly you will get a high FICO rating.  This is important for you to maintain since it allows you to do purchases for very low interest rates, along with other benefits.

However most people do not realize that every purchase they make using a credit card can put them into serious debt.  Using a credit card is like taking out a personal loan.  Since you can take a loan anytime and anywhere you are of course charged with additional interest rates, going anywhere from 20% or so.

Most people do not realize that credit cards give them a false impression that they have the money to make certain purchases. But in fact, using a credit card is just like availing of a loan.  What’s more the mere fact that you are paying off interest for purchases you made eats up a lot on your budget.  This is especially true if you only pay the minimum amount per month.

The problem escalates since most people want to have more than just one credit card.  This makes more people deep in debt, since they can’t keep up in paying off their monthly credit card bills.  Instead of establishing a good credit standing, people with multiple credit cards face the risk of raising their debt, which will have a bad effect on their credit score.

You will notice that most credit cards offer a bigger credit limit to their clients.  The belief of most credit card users is that it will help them in making purchases.  But in reality this is just a trap, a way for credit card companies to lure more clients into making unnecessary purchases.  Credit card companies are not interested in helping you get out of debt, they are only after putting you in deep debt.  So before you get another card, make sure you are getting one for the right reasons.
